About the Alchemy

The Alchemy Songwriting Competition began in 2011 as a joint project between recording artist Kris Allen and Arkansas based nonprofit the Blackbird Arts Collective. Its purpose is two-fold — one, to offer aspiring musicians the opportunity to showcase their work in front of music industry professionals and a wider audience, and two, to raise money for arts education. The Alchemy receives entries from around the world each year, with past winners having gone on to sign publishing deals, showcase original work internationally, and have their songs recorded by major label artists.  This track record thus proving the Alchemy Songwriting Competition to be both a springboard and an inspiration for up-and-coming artists.

About Blackbird arts collective

All proceeds from the Alchemy Songwriting Competition and Showcase will go towards Blackbird Arts Collective, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Blackbird was founded in 2009 with the original mission to provide quality arts education and opportunities to the Central Arkansas area.
